Summer school in Ghent

Summer School (SS2) and Mini-Conference

Location: Ghent University, Belgium

Period: from  03/07/2023  to  07/07/2023
Title: FAIRNESS Summer school 2023 – “Training of urban micrometeorological data end-users

Topics of the summer school:

The aim of this summer school is to support the participants in processing and analysing their urban microclimate dataset. We will give priority to participants who bring their own urban dataset. Both, already well-studied and urban datasets not yet quality-controlled including gaps, are welcome.

The summer school includes hands-on work on the following topics:
  • quality control and gap filling of urban meteorological data
  • mapping the environment around your station
  • from observations to an urban heat island analysis
  • comparing urban observations with urban climate model data

The summer school focuses on hands-on exercises with your own dataset. The program also includes lectures, an urban climate walk in the city of Ghent and an excursion to the Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium in Brussels. A more detailed program will follow later.

How to apply?

The participation is open for PhD students, post-docs and early career scientists from COST member countries and will be reimbursed by the COST action. To apply, you should send your CV, including your basic skills as well as a motivation letter.

You can apply: by email till 14/04/2023

To whom: summer school scientific coordinator, Prof. Steven Caluwaerts: (steven.caluwaerts@ugent.be

It is very important to share information on the urban climate dataset that you want to work on. The committee will give priority to candidates who have an urban dataset to work on (ideally the dataset is already included on the Micromet KSP (https://www.fairness-ca20108.eu/micromet_ksp)

No urban dataset? You can still be selected if there are places left.

A decision on your participation will be made by 01/05/2023. In case you will be selected by the organisation committee, further information will be provided.

You have urban data and you would like to progress in analysing the dataset? Please do not hesitate to apply! We are looking forward to welcoming you this summer in Ghent!

FAIRNESS Mini-Conference (07/07/2023, 13:00 CEST)

Below there is the link to join the mini-conference of the FAIRNESS summer school. We start next Friday 07/07 at 13h00 with a welcome by yourself and then we give the floor to the participants of the summer school to show what they are doing and what they learnt. For them it is a nice opportunity to show their research to the outside world. Around 15h00 this should all be finished.
